THE Dandy Warhols

Portland, Oregon’s The Dandy Warhols have been making music since the mid 90’s and as a result they’ve built a rabid and loyal fan base. Fans came to Elsewhere in Brooklyn, NY, from as far away from Boston and Philadelphia to see the band in a club so far out in the industrial wilds of Brooklyn there is no cell service.

The Dandy Warhols finished up a five city mini-tour of small venues on the east coast with a sold out show to a crowd that couldn’t get enough of their hits and back catalog favorites. They performed spread out across the stage, which gave each member equal standing amongst the fog and the low lights that favored no one.

Courtney Taylor-Taylor switched between mics to distort his voice as needed and did little talking, maintaining the bands mystique. Keyboardist Zia McCabe, the heartbeat of the band, bounced and danced behind her synthesizers and kept up the energy by shaking tambourines and maracas against her black leather clad hips. Later in the set she picked up a bass guitar. Drummer Brent DeBoer was trans-like as he pounded out the beat, rarely changing his focused facial expression. Guitarist Peter Holmstrom, face hidden in the shadows of a bucket hat, showcased his technical wizardry during audience favorites like  STYGGO and the set closer, Godless

The satisfied crowd poured out of the data-disconnected venue – there’s no wi-fi available for guests – out into the pouring rain. With many struggling to get a signal to call an Uber, some headed for the subway to escape the downpour. While I don’t expect the venue to provide cell service, a little wi-fi would be nice.
