The DT’s rock the House of Independents for Light of Day Foundation

Last night’s show at Asbury Park’s House of Independence was one of dozens of shows being held around the world to benefit the The Light of Day Foundation, Inc. this week. The Light of Day Foundation, Inc., utilizes the power of music to raise money and awareness in its continuing battle to defeat Parkinson’s disease and its related illnesses

The show at the House of Independence featured four bands including the DT’s. I go way back with the D & T the band is named after.  I saw Tom Losito and David Valentine play in the band the Vaughns several times starting in 2016. After they left that band, I saw them during Covid as the newly formed duo the DT’s.   Later they added a drummer and bass to their live performances and started recording.  Last night they added a keyboard player, freeing up David, who occasionally played keys live, to interact with Tom and play off and with each other, which they often do to great effect.

To grab the audience’s attention from the start, they wisely opened with a cover of Oasis’ “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star”, setting the stage for what was to come.   Their latest single, “Refresh” would be a perfect song to complement a movie about social media obsessed 20’s somethings.  Beatles and other classic rock references inform their new songs but in a good way. “Need You (Forever)”  sounds like a song you’ve heard before and will have you scratching your head where, but unless you’re a DT’s fan, you haven’t.  While the pair have always displayed talent and confidence, that talent and confidence continues to grow. It’s great to watch the DT’s become rock ‘n’ roll stars.
